Climate change disproportionately harms low-income people and communities of color. It intensifies heat waves and storms, exacerbates air pollution, and changes precipitation patterns which leads to both flooding and drought. At the same time, some state and local policies and programs designed to stem climate change can actually exacerbate conditions in over-burdened areas. We advocate for climate change policies and programs that benefit, and do not harm, lower income communities and communities of color.

Some of our work includes securing investments for disaster response, community resilience centers, climate resilience planning, clean mobility options, and clean energy home upgrades; ensuring inclusion of agricultural communities and lower income people living in the San Joaquin and Coachella Valleys in climate adaptation planning and economic sustainability strategies; advocating for state and local policies that promote improved air and water quality while also addressing climate change and challenging climate change policies that perpetuate pollution and vulnerability in lower income communities of color and inland and rural California.
