Tulare County
Many unincorporated communities in the County still demonstrate the impacts of a policy in the county’s past general plan that called for divestment from several small communities to usher in a state of natural decline. The communities — almost all predominantly communities of color — remained but many without basic services and amenities including safe drinking water.
We work with community leaders and community-based organizations from several unincorporated communities including Matheny Tract, Pixley, Allensworth and Tooleville to right the wrongs of the past. Areas of focus in Tulare County include securing safe and affordable drinking water and wastewater service, improving public transit and active transportation infrastructure, informing equitable land-use planning and climate resilience planning, and protecting communities from pollution from dairies and other pollution sources.
