Press Statement-SB 351

A course-correction is close at hand. Elected officials across California routinely neglect and forget unincorporated communities. These neighborhoods do not receive adequate investment and are not included in decisions that have a direct impact on their health and economic wellbeing. Today, though, the Assembly passed Senate Bill 351 (Hurtado) which expands the Transformative Climate Communities program to allow unincorporated communities to apply for and receive grants that will give residents the power to decide what projects will be built in their communities that further climate resilience and address major environmental, health and economic issues. We applaud the California Legislature for passing this bill and Senator Melissa Hurtado for her leadership to send SB 351 to the governor. We encourage Gov. Newsom to continue his commitment to all of California and sign this bill.
