Press Statement: Legislative Success

Statement attributed to Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability: Oct. 10, 2019

Never underestimate the strength of community residents, the power of partnerships and the demand for justice. Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability and residents across California sponsored and supported four bills during the recently completed legislative session. All four were signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

  • SB 200 establishes the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund, which will provide nearly $1.4 billion over the next decade to ensure communities have access to safe, affordable drinking water.
  • AB 600 affirms the importance of equitable and inclusive development by preventing exclusion of some of California’s most marginalized unincorporated communities from growth and investment.
  • AB 508 makes it easier for communities facing water contamination to overcome local resistance to drinking water consolidation and extension of service.
  • SB 351 makes unincorporated communities eligible for funding from the Transformative Climate Communities Program.

We are proud to partner with residents and work alongside so many dedicated environmental justice organizations.
