Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability is committed to your privacy.  

Other than information automatically collected and stored (see below), and information you voluntarily give us, we compile no information about you when you visit our website unless you choose to provide that information to us. This policy applies solely to personal information collected on or through leadershipcounsel.org (the “Site”), individual sites through third parties that refer to this policy, or surveys. 

Information Collection, Use, and Sharing

When you browse through our web site, we automatically collect and temporarily store the following information about your visit:

• the name of the domain you use to access the Internet;

• the pages you visited; and

Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability collects, retains and uses personal information you provide to us or give us permission to obtain. You voluntarily provide or allow us to obtain information when you:

• Donate to Leadership Counsel. When you donate, we request, collect, and retain certain information from you (collectively “Transactional Information”). Transactional Information includes your name, email address, billing address, credit card information, phone number, donation and/or purchase amount, and other personally identifiable information you might choose to share with us in this context.
• Use of Leadership Counsel Site. Depending on the features of the Site or associated third-party sites you choose to use, we request, collect and retain certain information (collectively “Service Information”). Service Information includes your name, email address, mailing address, phone number and other personally identifiable information you choose to share with us when using our Site or associated third party sites.
• Use of Our Community Engagement and Advocacy Services. Leadership Counsel may collect information such as your name, phone number, address, email address, preferred language, names of others in the household, and other relevant contact/personally identifiable information that you choose to share with us in our community organizing and policy advocacy services to support issues that concern you. We also collect and retain information about events you attend and issues you care about.  
• Answer Survey Questions. We occasionally offer surveys to residents in communities in our service area, primarily as part of our technical assistance services.  If you answer the survey questions, we collect and retain the information you choose to share with us.

How We Use the Information We Collect

Leadership Counsel employs commercially reasonable precautions to help protect and safeguard our Site users from unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure, or destruction of Personal Information. We use the personal information collected on or through the Site for the following purposes:

• At times, we share aggregated demographic information with our funders, our community partners, and research institutions. The information provided does not include any personal information that can identify any individual or address.
• We use Service Information to provide you with the functionality of the features on the Site that you are using. This includes, for example, registering you for an event you request to participate in, including you in our list of electronic newsletters or text messages you subscribe to, sending you action alerts you have requested, and analyzing your responses to surveys you have completed.
• We use Community Engagement Advocacy Information to uplift community messages to the attention of the policy and/or decision makers about the issues that concern you. 
• We use survey information to support our technical assistance to disadvantaged communities on issues such as access to safe drinking water, adequate wastewater services, and sustainable groundwater management.
• We use Cookie Information to the extent necessary to operate the Site and offer the functionality of its features to you. We also use Cookie Information to remember your preferences and settings. In addition, Cookie Information is used to measure how you interact with our Site and collect analytic data, to test and improve our Site, and to provide users with a more relevant and meaningful experience.

Other than described above, we may use your personal information

• to ensure the security of our Site,
• as necessary to comply with applicable law and regulations,
• to cooperate with public and government authorities, and
• for other legal reasons.

How we Share the Information We Collect

• With event sponsors or organizers, to register you for events you choose to participate in.

Your information and data, whether personal information or not, may also be disclosed or distributed to another party with which Leadership Counsel enters into a business transaction, such as, Leadership Counsel Action, an affiliated 501(c)(4).

How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep your personal information for as long as necessary to accomplish the uses described in this Policy and as consistent with applicable law.

The criteria used to determine our retention periods include:

• The length of time we have an ongoing relationship with you;
• Whether there is a legal obligation to which we are subject (for example, certain laws require us to keep records of your transactions for a certain period of time before we can delete them); and
• Whether retention is advisable considering our legal position (such as regarding applicable statutes of limitations, litigation or regulatory investigations).

Children’s On-Line Privacy

Our Site are not directed to children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child is receiving Leadership Counsel communications and you don’t want them to, or if you believe we are collecting your child’s personal information, please contact us.

We may change this policy from time to time, and if we do, we’ll post any changes on this page.
