Riverside County
Our work in Riverside County, focuses on the Eastern Coachella Valley and specifically the rural unincorporated communities of Thermal, Oasis, Mecca and North Shore. The region reflects years of neglect and inequality between the east side of the valley and the west, with the former characterized by substandard housing, air polluted by a reseeding Salton Sea and pesticides, unsafe drinking water, and dangerous roads and the west characterized by manicured lawns, golf resorts and pedestrian malls and paths.
We work in partnership with a strong community-based regional movement to draw resources to the four unincorporated communities for climate resilience assets, water and wastewater infrastructure, housing opportunities, and equitable transportation options; address root causes of inequality and injustice including discriminatory housing and land policies; demand safe and dignified housing; and reduce air and water pollution from a variety of sources.
